Flu Shots

Starting in October and lasting through late May, flu season sees up to 3 million cases reported each year across the country as people contract the highly contagious virus. Influenza mutates each year, and the only way to prevent catching it is by getting an annual flu shot designed to match the current strain. Flu shots are currently available at AFC Urgent Care Lyndhurst in order to provide protection through the spring.

Who is the flu shot recommended for?

The flu shot is recommended for anyone over the age of six months. It is recommended that you get your flu shot before the end of October in order to be protected for the entirety of the season. High risk patients should get their flu shots earlier in the season and include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Younger children
  • Senior citizens
  • Patients with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems

Because the flu is highly contagious, it can quickly make its way through your home once it hits your community. The shot is the most effective form of flu prevention available, and it is important to get it early: the shot takes about two weeks to become effective.
